Roland Schindler-Hodel

Roland Schindler-Hodel (born March 12, 1953 as Roland Schindler ; † February 16, 2017 ) was a German canoeist .

Career

Schindler-Hodel came from Bavaria. He had been a member of the German Touring Kayak Club in Munich since 1966 . Together with his partner Dieter Pioch he started in the two-man Canadians discipline. Both were among the top canoeists in the C II class. Between 1973 and 1977 you won the German championship in two-man Canadians five times.

These successes led to Pioch and Schindler being used in international competitions from 1973 onwards. In their first international assignment at the World Championships in 1973, they took 4th place in their discipline. In 1975 they both became world champions in canoe two-man. Two years later, both were able to repeat this success at the 1977 Canoe World Championships.

Federal President Walter Scheel awarded Pioch and Schindler the silver bay leaf for winning the world championship in two-man Canadians in 1975.

Schindler-Hodel was married to Marie-Therese Schindler-Hodel. The couple has three sons: Severin, Dominik and Kilian. After retiring from his career, Schindler-Hodel lived in Sankt Erhard in Switzerland , where the doctor of dentistry ran a practice. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack.
