Roland Schmid (* 1953 ) is a German translator.

Career

Schmid studied languages ​​in Germersheim . With the help of a scholarship, he continued his training with a degree in international relations in Nice. In 1979 he came to Brussels and worked there for 32 years until his retirement as a translator for the Council of the European Union .

He volunteers for the legacy of Belgian resistance fighters. In 2002 he prevented the planned demolition of the studio of the painter Marcel Hastir in the Léopold district in Brussels , which was a refuge for persecuted people and resistance fighters during the German occupation in World War II. In 2012, Schmid was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon in Atelier Hastir for his commitment to maintaining the building.
