Rolf Johan Furuli (born December 19, 1942 ) is a Norwegian philologist and linguist . He was a lecturer and lecturer in ancient Semitic languages ​​and literatures at the University of Oslo .

Furuli studied Semitic language, Greek, Latin and general linguistics. In 1995 he completed his studies in Oslo with a master's degree and a thesis on the system of verbs in classical Hebrew. In 1999 he held a position as assistant professor in Oslo, and in 2005 he obtained his doctorate. phil with a work on the definite and indefinite verbs of the Hebrew Bible. As a lecturer he taught the Akkadian language, Aramaic , Ethiopian , Hebrew , Phoenician , Syriac and Ugaritic. He supervised research projects for the new drafting of the chronology of the New Assyrian, New Babylonian and Persian Empires based on the corpus of the traditional cuneiform texts. From these and other texts and languages ​​Furuli made Norwegian transcriptions for the publication "Verdens Hellige Skrifter" ("The holy writings of the world").

In addition to other linguistic and cultural studies and publications, Furuli publishes, in particular, on issues relating to the Old and New Testament Bible translation and text history. His work is criticized because of its proximity to the religious community of Jehovah's Witnesses .
