Rolling50

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rolling50 is a kind of acceleration race for sports and super sports cars, which is organized several times a year by the SCC500 (SuperCarClub 500).

description

The venues for the race, in which powerful, series-tuned vehicles from all over Europe take part, are temporary racetracks such as airfields or the start-finish straights of racetracks such as the Nürburgring. The races have taken place several times a year since 2014. Depending on the venues, the drag races will be held in front of spectators on the track or broadcast live on social networks. The number of spectators per event is between 2000 and 3000 people. As a rule, more than 10,000 spectators come to the “Sport1 Trackday” at the Nürburgring to watch the event. With autograph sessions and shows, additionally booked entertainers like the TV presenter Matthias Malmedie or Cyndie Allemann from “Grip Das Motormagazin” attract additional viewers. Basically anyone who has a vehicle with at least 300 hp can participate. The special thing about the Rolling50 discipline, as the name suggests, is the “rolling start from 50 km / h”. Depending on the venue, the pure acceleration distance after the start is between 300 and 1000 meters. It is not the time that counts, but the highest speed achieved at the finish line. The acceleration distance of 1000 meters has established itself in the scene because of the high speeds that can be achieved there. In this case, the discipline is given the addition “1000” and becomes “Rolling50 1000”. In the Rolling50 1000, the usually tuned vehicles in the "TUNER" category (over 1000 hp) reach speeds of over 300 km / h. The world record, as of 2019, was set with a Porsche 9FF with a rated top speed of 366.58 km / h.

Occasionally the events are accompanied by various TV channels such as Sport1 (Sport1 Trackday on the Nürburgring), RTL2 (Grip Das Motormagazin) and DMAX or broadcast via live stream on social networks.

The 2016 championship was accompanied by the broadcaster DMAX as part of the second season of the tuning series "The Geiger - Boss of Big Blocks" .

Regulations

The field of participants is between 80 and 120 vehicles. Only vehicles with a serial output of at least 300 hp are eligible to participate. Tuning is expressly allowed. However, the SCC500 checks the vehicles for their safety before starting, especially with regard to tuning. As of 2019, the rules were relaxed and vehicles that do not have a standard output of 300 hp are also allowed to participate. A separate TUNER SPECIAL class was created for these vehicles. For all vehicles, however, an actual output of at least 300 hp applies. The vehicles are divided into the 7 rating classes according to their actual horsepower, which the participants must truthfully indicate when registering. In order to counteract incorrect or incorrect information on the performance, maximum V-Max values (maximum speed) have been set in the individual classes. If these values are exceeded, the corresponding vehicle is classified in the next higher class.

  • Class 1: 300–400 hp (V-Max: 235 km / h)
  • Class 2: 401–500 PS (V-Max: 250 km / h)
  • Class 3: 501–600 hp (V-Max: 265 km / h)
  • Class 4: 601–750 PS (V-Max: 282 km / h)
  • Class 5: 751–999 hp (V-Max: 300 km / h)
  • Class tuner: 1000+ PS (V-Max: open)
  • Class tuner special: oA (V-Max: open)

execution

It is started 1 against 1. The pre-start is about 50 meters in front of the actual starting line, where the rolling start speed of 50 km / h must not be exceeded. The vehicles start moving and accelerate slowly to a speed of max. 50 km / h. At the actual starting line, the starting speed is measured individually for both vehicles. Then you can accelerate fully. The maximum speed achieved there is then measured at the finish line. If the starting speed is max. 50 km / h, the target speed is used as a rating. If the starting speed is above the permitted 50 km / h, the speed limit will be deducted as a value from the target speed reached. Only the target speed reduced by the overspeed at the start is included in the evaluation. The meticulous adherence to the permitted take-off speed is the decisive criterion in order to be able to achieve the best possible rating, as the target speed can never increase by the same amount for physical reasons as would be if the take-off speed was exceeded.

The winners and placements in the individual classes will be determined at the end of the event. It counts the highest achieved and rated target speed of all runs of a vehicle. The first three places in the respective classes receive trophies.

History of origin

The owner of the SCC500, Peter Klein, had the idea of creating a discipline for mainly high-quality sports and super sports cars in addition to the already established acceleration races such as the one-eighth mile and one quarter mile, as these are rarely seen in the well-known races. Furthermore, he wanted to give the owners of these vehicles an opportunity to compete legally and with like-minded people on temporary racetracks and thus counteract illegal street races. The frequency of accidents, especially with sports and super sports cars on public roads, is steadily increasing. In order to satisfy the adrenaline addiction of the "PS junkies", the owner of the SCC500 was of the opinion that he could meet this with a specially developed challenge, the Rolling50. So a discipline had to be created that differs from the so-called mile races and meets the characteristics of sports and super sports cars. This resulted in the idea with a rolling start. This is because the material such as the clutch, chassis and tires are subjected to far less stress than in the previously known drag races with a standing start. A rolling start was therefore decided. Since a time measurement only makes sense with a standing start, it quickly became clear that the evaluation had to be speed, not time. In order to make the new discipline compatible with regulations and comparable, it had to be determined from when and how measurements should take place. The starting speed of the rolling start of 50 km / h was specified because in Germany the maximum speed allowed in urban areas is also 50 km / h. This is how the name "Rolling50" was created, which was registered as a word and image trademark.

Originally it all began in Meinerzhagen at the airfield there, which is known for all kinds of motorsport events. However, after 2 events it quickly became clear that the conditions on site with a maximum acceleration distance of 300 meters, especially for the highly motorized vehicles with more than 800 hp, were far too short. So the search was made for longer routes and the Lahr airfield was discovered, which has a straight line of more than 2000 meters. Here the “Rolling50” became the “Rolling50 1000” with an acceleration distance of exactly 1000 meters. Among other things, the acceleration race was held not only in Lahr, but also on other routes such as the DEKRA OVAL at the Lausitzring, the ATP test center in Papenburg and on the Zweibrücken airfield.

The only venue that has an acceleration distance less than 1000 meters is the Nürburgring with its start-finish straight. Here, the Rolling50 as part of the Sport1 Trackday was only held over a distance of 300 meters due to the local conditions.

The participants

From the owner of a BMW M to Audi RS models, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Nissan GTR, Mercedes AMG etc. to a hypercar such as a Bugatti Chiron, the Rolling50 has everything. The clientele ranges from the “average consumer” with a middle income to multimillionaires.

The Rolling50 1000 discipline has established itself in particular among vehicle tuners of all kinds. From manufacturers such as Capristo Automotive (sports exhaust systems and carbon) to chip tuners of all kinds to professional engine and vehicle tuners such as 9ff, PP-Performance or GAD the manufacturers of tuning parts especially the drag races of the SCC500 to present or test their products. Tuning measures have long been measured and compared with regard to their effect and performance based on the results achieved in Rolling50 far beyond Germany.

The smallest part of the starting field, which usually comprises between 80 and 120 vehicles, is made up of the vehicles that go into the race as standard. These participants are usually only interested in being there and not in a trophy or a result among the best.

The fastest and most powerful vehicles in Europe are now regular customers of this event.

Registrations for participation are accepted on the SCC500 website using a registration form. Due to the high demand, the SCC500 has long waiting lists for every race.
