Roller table saw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A roller table saw is a type of table saw that is rarely used . It is mainly used for processing firewood , but thanks to its large table it is also able to process beams , boards and other wood materials. To do this, the large protective hood for the saw blade , which has an average size of 700  mm, is removed and a hood is attached that is open on all sides. This makes it possible to saw beams, the special addition is called a longitudinal cutting device. Since the number of roller table saws sold has continued to decline in recent years, there are only a few manufacturers who have them in their range.

construction

Roller table saws generally have a very large steel support frame that is either galvanized or powder-coated to protect against rust . The table construction, which runs on rail-guided ball bearings , rests on this frame . These bearings allow the table to roll back and forth, which is what gives this saw its name.

In most cases, the table itself is made of steel , there is only one known manufacturer in the world who equips these machines with a wooden table. The advantage of the wooden table is that there are no rust problems , because even the best galvanizing or powder coating will eventually give way to mechanical loads and flake off the steel. The wood is treated in such a way that it has the same sliding properties as a steel table. The disadvantage of this construction is the high cost and the correspondingly higher final price of the device.

Drive types

Like most devices in the forestry sector , roller table saws are also offered with different types of drives. The most common variant is an electric motor , which is usually supplied with 400  volts at 50  Hertz . The second version is the cardan shaft , here the saw is driven by a vehicle, usually a tractor . Only a few manufacturers offer saws with a combination of the two types of drive.

It is transported by means of a three-point suspension on the tractor.
