Roll title

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The credits of a film or a television show are generally produced as roll titles . The name comes from an earlier production method. Paper or plastic webs written or printed with the titles were unrolled and rolled up by hand or with a motor and then guided past the camera lens. This creates the impression that the writing is moving from bottom to top through the picture.

In contrast to the crawling title, the scrolling title does not run vertically through the picture (mostly in the lower part of the picture), but horizontally and fills the screen. Where this is not desired, the crawling title is sometimes used instead for the credits, which does not disturb the view of the background image.

Today the roll title is created electronically either on the font generator or directly in the video editing software .
