The Rome AG is a Belgian manufacturer of upholstered furniture , headquartered in Eupen . In recent years there has been a specialization in the IT-supported configuration of upholstered furniture and the networking of upholstered furniture with “ Smart Home ” systems. The company is the largest manufacturer of upholstered furniture in Belgium.
history
The company was founded in 1961 by Herbert and Katharina Rom. After laundry chests were initially produced, in the 1970s the company switched to the manufacture of upholstered seat shells, which were sold exclusively in the Benelux countries .
In the 1980s the company was realigned. In 1984, modern upholstered furniture replaced the chairs and tables produced to date. Sales expanded in Europe. In 1990 the son Paul Rom took over the management.
Since 2010, Rom AG has been concentrating on the manufacture and expansion of upholstered furniture in the “Smart Home” area as well as the manufacture and expansion of a sales-supporting product configurator with a 3D viewer. In 2011, 740 people worked for the company. In 2016 the company had around 950 employees, 80 of whom work at the headquarters in Eupen.
particularities
End users are given the opportunity to individually plan upholstered furniture in 20 cm increments, and for some models in 10 cm increments. Complementary to this, with the iRom app , the company offers the option of digitally mapping the set from various functions, covers and other variants in a 3D configurator.
From 2015, Rom AG also developed software solutions that integrate the Internet of Things concept into upholstered furniture. The “Aladin cosycontrol” mobile app was first brought to market maturity and, in 2017, expanded with the “Aladin Easytouch” touchpad . Both concepts allow control and storage of comfort functions built into the upholstered furniture. "Aladin cosycontrol" and "Aladin Easytouch" are patented or patent pending (DPMA 10 2017 111 532.3) products from Rom AG.
