Romainiai ( Eng . Romainen ) is a district of Kaunas , Lithuania . It is located in the northwest part of the city, north of Lampėdžiai . Romainiai is part of the Šilainiai District of Kaunas Municipality . There is a branch of Kliniken Kaunas ( LSMU University).

history

In the entry in 1294, the village Romainiai was mentioned in the Chronicon terrae Prussiae by Peter von Dusburg . In the 16th century the Romainiai manor was established and a castle was built. Fort Romainiai was built from 1913 to 1915 .

The Tuberculosis Hospital was established in 1937 (since 2004 it has belonged to the Kaunas University Clinics ).

In 1946 the place was incorporated into the municipality of Kaunas. Part of the Romainiai village still exists today.

The city-Mikrajon Romainiai was built in Soviet Lithuania .
