Roman Gutscher

Roman Gutscher (born August 4, 1897 in Sieghartskirchen , † April 11, 1967 in Tulln ) was an Austrian politician, farmer and entrepreneur.

Life

Gutscher attended secondary school, which he graduated with the Matura in 1918, then studied five semesters of natural resources. In 1920 he took over his father's farm. In March 1938 he was arrested by the Nazis and taken to prison in Tulln.

Roman Gutscher's family has been based in Sieghartskirchen since 1811, where they worked as a farmer, baker and local product dealer . The parent company, which was also Roman Gutscher's birthplace and now the family's residential and commercial building at Hauptplatz 1, was built in 1886.

Political career

In 1922 Gutscher was appointed chamber councilor in the Tulln district chamber of farmers. From 1925 he belonged to the municipal council of Sieghartskirchen. He held the office of vice mayor from 1930 and from 1945 to 1964 he was mayor. Gutscher was a member of the Lower Austrian Landtag from 1950 to 1954 and from 1962 to 1964. He was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 1959 to 1962.
