Romantic house (2011)

The Romantikerhaus literature museum is located in the former home of the philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte in Jena .

The permanent exhibition on early romanticism in Jena shows the cultural and intellectual-historical background for the dawn of a young generation of poets, literary critics, philosophers and natural scientists. It sheds light on the conditions under which Jena was able to develop into the most progressive intellectual center in Germany between 1785 and 1803 .

Jena's spiritual and cultural charisma embodies an essential creative prerequisite for early romanticism. Based on the publishing activities in Jena, the importance of Carl Friedrich Ernst Frommans , his circle of friends and the literature situation around 1800, the establishment of the " Athenaeum " is presented as a program magazine of early romanticism. A simulated salon is dedicated to romantic society .

An experimental cabinet by the physicist Johann Wilhelm Ritter shows the scientific commitment of the early romantics and the complexity of romantic thinking between natural research , social criticism and visions of the future. The salon is dedicated to romantic society. A part of the second floor is used for temporary exhibitions that deal with special topics from the romantic environment. A theater stage offers a variety of possibilities. The history of the European Romantic era is shown through both the temporary exhibitions and events.

Since 2005, the museum has been part of the city's own operation for culture, tourism, marketing JenaKultur .
