Romulus (martyr)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to tradition, Romulus († 112 ) was a Roman court official and Christian martyr .

According to the account of Simeon Metaphrastes , Romulus was a court official ( praefectus aulae ) of the Emperor Trajan . Romulus wanted to convince the emperor that it was nonsensical to persecute the Christian soldiers, who were becoming more and more numerous in the army, especially in the east, just because of their faith, since the loss of such brave and loyal warriors would also weaken the defensive power of the empire . Trajan is said to have been so angry about this speech that he had Romulus flogged and beheaded.

Romulus is venerated as a saint . His feast day is September 5th .
