Romulus of Fiesole
Romulus von Fiesole was a Christian deacon in Fiesole . His exact lifetime is unknown and his life story can hardly be reliably reconstructed due to later legendary remodeling.
The Passio of Romulus comes from the 11th or 12th century. She reports that Romulus, like his namesake , the founder of Rome , was raised by wolves. He was then appointed by Peter himself, first as bishop of Sutri and Nepi and later by Fiesole, and converted numerous people to Christianity in Bergamo , Brescia and other cities. After all, he and a number of his companions were martyred under Emperor Domitian . The first written message that exists about Romulus, however, is an inscription, which was only created in the 5th or 6th century in the Peters Basilica of Fiesole and which only says that Romulus worked as a deacon and lecturer in Fiesole. It is possible that Romulus actually only lived in late antiquity and that the connection with Peter is a later invention to give the Christian community of Fiesole as old as possible.
Adoration
In 1028 the bones known as those of Romulus were transferred to the cathedral of Fiesole, where they have since been venerated as relics. The saint's feast day is July 6th .
