The Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove on the Potomac is located on Columbia Island in Washington, DC The Presidential Memorial honors the 36th President of the United States Lyndon B. Johnson .

LBJ Memorial Grove Monolith

The memorial consists of two areas. The first area is a Texas granite monolith surrounded by serpentine paths. The second area is a lawn that is used for relaxation and reflection. Hundreds of Weymouth pines and dogwood trees shade the pathways lined with azaleas and rhododendrons . The memorial looks out over the Potomac River to the capital.

At the entrance to the memorial, across from the Pentagon , visitors can listen to a recording of Lady Bird Johnson . In this shot, the former first lady talks about the construction of the park, the trees, and the view of Washington’s top landmarks.

The park also includes the Navy-Marine Memorial , the sailors and Marines dedicated to the First World War have fallen.

Administrative history

The National Memorial was approved by Congress on December 28, 1973 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places that same day . The memorial was inaugurated on September 27, 1974. It is administered by the National Park Service within the George Washington Memorial Parkway .
