The Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial is a memorial located on the northwest corner of 3rd Street and Pine Street in Philadelphia . A room on the first floor of the house was the home of Tadeusz Kościuszko in the winter of 1797/1798 . The house commemorates the life and work of the Polish patriot and hero of the American Revolution .
The site has been a national memorial since October 21, 1972 and, with an area of 80 m², counts as the smallest "national park" in the USA alongside the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial .
The house was also the birthplace of Colonel John Nixon (1733-1808), who first read the Declaration of Independence in the State House Yard on June 8, 1776, and who was an ancestor of President Richard Nixon .
