Ron Laird

Ronald Owen "Ron" Laird (born May 31, 1938 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is a former American walker .

Sports career

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he came in 19th place in a 50 km walk .

Over 20 km he was fourth at the 1963 Pan American Games in São Paulo and was disqualified at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo .

In 1967 he won the 20 km walking at the Pan American Games in 1967 in Winnipeg, and in 1968 he finished 25th at the Olympic Games in Mexico City .

Eight years later he came 20th at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal over 20 km walking.

Eight times he was US champion over 20 km walking (1958, 1963-1965, 1967-1969, 1976) and twice over 50 km walking (1960, 1962). Over other distances, he collected 50 other national titles outdoors and four indoors.

In 1986, he was in the Hall of Fame of USA Track & Field added.
