Ronald Lorne Stackhouse (* 26. August 1949 in Haliburton , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his career for the California Seals , Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League on the position of the defender played.

Career

Ron Stackhouse began his career in 1967 with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey Association and was active for the team for two years. He then went on the ice for the Providence Reds in the American Hockey League and the Seattle Totems in the Western Hockey League . Stackhouse was selected in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft by the Oakland Seals in the second round in 18th position.

From 1970 to 1971 he ran for the meantime in California Seals renamed franchise and then moved in October 1971 in exchange for Tom Webster , for three years with the Detroit Red Wings . Although he played there regularly, he never qualified with the team for the play-offs. During the 1973/74 season , Stackhouse was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins by the Red Wings in exchange for Jack Lynch and Jim Rutherford . In more than eight years in Pittsburgh, the Canadian stood out primarily because of his offensive strength and went down in history when he reached six assists in an NHL game in March 1975, which only five other defenders succeeded in addition to him. In the play-off series he remained largely unsuccessful with Pittsburgh and never reached a final series for the Stanley Cup , although he ran up in almost 900 NHL games. In 1982 he ended his career.
