Ronald L. Batory

Ronald L. Batory (born January 25, 1950 ) is an American rail transport manager. He has headed the Federal Railroad Administration since February 2018 .

Life

Ronald L. Batory grew up in Detroit . His father was employed by the New York Central Railroad . In 1971 he received a BA in Business Administration from Adrian College and an MA in Industrial Management from Eastern Michigan University in 1975 .

In 1971 he began working for the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad . He worked at various levels of lower and middle management. After the Grand Trunk Western Railway took over DT&I in 1980, he rose to the position of District Operation Manager in Chicago and Director of Transport Planning in Detroit.

In 1987 he moved to the bankrupt Chicago, Missouri and Western Railway . There he was primarily responsible for the sale of fixed assets. This brought him into contact with Southern Pacific Transportation . With this he then received a managerial position in the Central Region.

In 1994 he became president of Chicago's Belt Railway Company of Chicago . In 1998 he moved to Conrail and became Vice President for Operations. In 2004 he became the company's President and Chief Operating Officer . He ended this position on April 1, 2017.

On July 10, 2017, he was proposed as administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration by President Donald Trump . As the US Senate's confirmation of the nomination was delayed, Batory was appointed to the staff of Minister of Transportation Elaine Chao in November 2017 as a rail consultant . The Senate was finally confirmed on February 13, 2018 and the assumption of office on February 28, 2018.

Due to his work at various railway companies, he sat on the boards of the Kansas City Terminal Railway , Southern Illinois and Missouri Bridge Company, Arkansas and Memphis Railway Bridge and Terminal Company and the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis . He also sat on the board of directors of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association .

He is a board member of the Transportation Institute at the University of Denver .

Ronald L. Batory is married with one daughter.
