The Rooi Frances , also known as Franse Pas , is a narrow passage on the island of Aruba that runs between the coral cliffs in the Spanish Lagoon .

description

From the pass you can see the remains of the Balashi gold mill.

Legend has it that in the early 17th century French pirates tried to raid Aruba and landed there. However, they were stopped and beaten in this narrow passage by locals who lived in the immediate vicinity in Pos Chikito . After this encounter, the passage became known as "Franse Pas" or "Rooi Frances" and is now the name for a street. The early history of Aruba is not well documented, so the naming of Franse Pas is known from legends and stories that are passed down from generation to generation.
