The Roraima mouse ( Podoxymys roraimae ) is a species of rodent from the group of New World mice that lives in South America .

Roraima mice reach a head body length of around 10 centimeters, the tail becomes just as long. The fur is very long and soft, it is dark in color. The ears are partially hidden in the fur, the eyes are small and the claws of the front paws are long.

These animals live in northern South America, they are native to the area of ​​the Roraima-Tepui mountain in the triangle of Venezuela , Guyana and Brazil . Little is known about the way of life.

A total of only six specimens of the Roraima mouse were found, five in the first series in 1929 and another in 1992. The IUCN lists the species as not endangered, but this is out of date.

The systematic position is not exactly known. Morphologically, the species is a link between the South American field mice ( Akodon ) and the grave mice ( Oxymycterus ).
