The Rosen-Union eG is Germany's only cooperative rose growing company. It was founded in 1961 and is based in Bad Nauheim-Steinfurth . The show garden of the Rosen-Union exhibits around 500 varieties of roses on 6,000 m² .

history

After the Second World War , rose production in the rose village of Steinfurth - a focus of rose cultivation in Germany since 1868 - quickly revived. The producer structure, which was characterized by small family businesses, often as a sideline, soon reached its limits in successfully marketing the rose plants. In addition, large German rose growers have their new products protected by patents and trademarks. The small businesses in Steinfurth feared being able to grow the new licensed varieties late or not at all.

Therefore, eight Steinfurth companies founded the Rosen-Union eG as a sales cooperative in the summer of 1961 . Within two years, the cooperative grew to 72 rose growers. At its peak, the cooperative consisted of 78 companies, in 2016 there were only 14.

The Rosen-Union acquired license rights from many foreign breeders, e.g. B. from Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Denmark or New Zealand. After successful tests, Rosen-Union eG launched many international varieties on the German market. Currently (2017) there are 142 varieties introduced by the Rosen-Union in Germany.

The delivery of packaged roses (also called self-service packaged roses ) to specialist plant and seed shops was introduced by Rosen-Union eG in Germany.

Products

Grafted rose plants are produced as bare-root goods and in container pots. Self-service packaged roses are also sold for wholesale. In addition, the Rosen-Union sells sub-license agreements for international rose varieties (garden roses and cut roses for commercial cultivation). The trade journal Deutsche Baumschule reports annually in its June issue about the introduction of new products from Rosen-Union eG .
