The Cerro Blanco Forest Reserve ( Spanish Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco ) is a protected area 16 km west of the metropolis of Guayaquil in the province of Guayas in the west of Ecuador .
The protected area covers an area of 6078 hectares with tropical dry forest in the southeast of the Cordillera Chongón-Colonche . Established in 1979, the protected area belongs to the Cemento Nacional company and is managed by the Fundación Pro-Bosque . It is open to visitors. More than 200 species of birds, more than 50 species of mammals (including more than twenty species of bat ), more than ten species of reptiles and ten species of amphibians have been observed, along with many spiders, butterflies and other animals. The reserve is known for its howler monkeys .
