history

Ecuavisa began broadcasting on March 1, 1967, when the station was founded by Xavier Alvarado Roca . Roca's company includes Senefelder (printing works) and ENSA (Editores Nacionales SA) , a publisher that publishes magazines such as Vistazo , Hogar and Estadio . Since then, some of the station's studios have been located in Guayaquil on the summit of the Cerro del Carmen hill , the highest point in Guayaquil, which is therefore ideal for broadcasting television signals.

Then on June 22, 1970, together with the journalist Jorge Mantilla Ortega, the station Televisora Nacional Canal 8 was founded, over which Ecuavisa could also be broadcast in Quito. This opened up the east of the country. Until 1985 Televisora Nacional Canal 8 was part of the group of the Ecuadorian daily newspaper El Comercio , after which the canal was sold.

With the technological advances of the 1970s, television became affordable for a larger part of the Ecuadorian population, from which Ecuavisa benefited.

The group expanded its influence and can now be received in the USA (via the DirecTV satellite system , which offers various Latin American television channels in one package ( DirecTV Para Todos )) and Spain (via the ONO chain ) as part of Ecuavisa Internacional .

Ecuavisa can now be received worldwide via the Internet and in Europe via the Hispasat satellite. A new website was designed in March 2007 to mark the 40th anniversary of the station.
