Rosenau (Koenigsberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rosenau was a district of Königsberg (Prussia) , located southeast of Haberberg and south of Mühlenhof .

Surname

The name is of Prussian origin and describes a slightly damp area: "rasa" (dew, moisture); "Rasyte" ( goddess for watering vegetation with morning dew).

history

Rosenau was not incorporated into Königsberg until 1905. It was an insignificant village that only served as a housing development for the growing city after the construction of the railway line. The village was characterized by allotment gardens. To the northwest were the sports field at Friedländer Tor and the bathing establishment and the slaughterhouse . Hugo Stinnes founded the "Ostpreußische Maschinengesellschaft mbH" and expanded the factory into the "Odinwerk" in Rosenau, one of the largest machine factories and foundries in East Germany.

Sacred buildings

The village church was built after 1914 and is now used by an Orthodox community.
