Roslin Institute

The Roslin Institute is a research institute in The Bush, a village near Roslin , Midlothian , Scotland , funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council .

In 1996 Ian Wilmut , Keith Campbell and their colleagues cloned a sheep named Dolly there . It was the first mammal to be cloned from a full-grown cell. A year later, Polly and Molly were cloned. A human gene was also implanted in both of them.

In 2007 a team at the institute developed genetically modified chickens. Their eggs contain recombinant proteins that can be used to make cancer drugs.
