Roslin (sometimes spelled Rosslyn or Roslyn ) is a village of 1,642 people in Midlothian , Scotland . It's about ten kilometers south of Edinburgh .
Roslin is known for the Rosslyn Chapel , Roslin Castle, and the Battle of Roslin (1303). The Roslin Institute , where Dolly the sheep was cloned, is also there, as is a park, Roslin Glen.
The name Roslin comes from the Celtic ross , a rocky hill, and lynn , a waterfall .
Legend has it that the village was founded in 203 by the Pict Asterius.
Since the Rosslyn Chapel was featured in the Hollywood blockbuster The Da Vinci Code , the number of visitors to Roslin has risen sharply.
