The red-bellied wheatear ( Thamnolaea cinnamomeiventris ) is a species of bird from the flycatcher family (Muscicapidae).
description
The appearance of male and female birds is different : the male has black plumage, only the lower part of the body and the belly are colored a strong chestnut red. A white line on the shoulder is characteristic.
The female has gray plumage. The chestnut-red areas on the belly and trunk are less pronounced, the white line on the shoulder is missing.
The adult animals reach a size of 19 to 21 cm. Young animals resemble the females in their appearance.
Habitat and Distribution
The red-bellied wheatear is at home on rock faces and wooded, rocky slopes. Its distribution area extends through the whole of eastern Africa and extends from Eritrea to southeastern South Africa . The species is not endangered due to its wide distribution.
