Christine Churcher

Christine Churcher (born September 21, 1954 , Cape Coast , Ghana ) is a leading politician in Ghana. She had between 2001 and 2005, the Ministry of primary and secondary school education and education of girls ( Minister of Primary, Secondary and Girl-Child Education ) held and between 2005 and 2006 the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection ( Minister of Science and the Environment ). Churcher is also considered the matriarch of Cape Coast because of her origins and political activities in her hometown . In any case, the politician Churcher is controversial after allegations of corruption and dismissal from the ministerial office in 2006.

Churcher attended Kwesi Plange Primary School in Cape Coast between 1959 and 1965. Between 1965 and 1972 she attended the Mfanstiman Girls Secondary School. Between 1975 and 1978 Churcher studied English and History at the University of Ghana and graduated with success.

In 1991 churcher was working on the first part of her thesis for the Masters in Philosophy in the Adult Education program at the University of Ghana.

Career

After graduating from high school in 1972, Churcher began teaching English at her alma mater , the Mfantsiman Secondary School. After completing her studies from 1978 to 1982, she worked in administration at Prestea Goldields Limited and from 1982 switched to the Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast as an English tutor.

Politically, she began her work in 1989 and 1990 as Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Council in the field of women and development . Churcher was the Municipal Chief Executive of Cape Coast. Churcher has been a member of the Ghanaian parliament for the Cape Coast constituency as a candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 1996 . In October 2006 there were increasing rumors of resignation from her parliamentary seat, as Churcher was reported to have withheld a number of official vehicles from her tenure as minister.

Churcher served as minister for both terms of President John Agyekum Kufuor . Between 2001 and 2005 she was Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Girls' Education and between 2005 and 2006 Minister for Science and Environment. On April 27, 2006, Churcher was removed from office by President Kufuor.
