The Red Group was a communist artist association founded in Berlin in 1924 . The group assumed a 10-point program, which, among other things, required the use of all skills in the service of the class struggle .

George Grosz and Wieland Herzfelde summarized the goals of the group and the participating artists in the 1925 essay Art is in Danger. An attempt at orientation together. Artistic value would only be measured according to its social usefulness and its effects. Subjectively arbitrary criteria such as artistic value or market success are to be rejected.

The board of directors was made up of Grosz ( chairman ), John Heartfield (first secretary ) and Rudolf Schlichter (secretary). The group introduced itself to the public on June 13, 1924. The group influenced other groups that were later founded on their model, such as the Asso in the final phase of the Weimar Republic .
