Red Church (Brno)
The Red Church is a Protestant church in Brno in the Czech Republic . It was built in the north German neo-Gothic style.
history
The Brno Lutherans, who belong to the AB Moravia and Silesia Superintendent , decided to build the new church in the 1860s. Heinrich von Ferstel won the architectural competition called for this . The foundation stone was laid in 1863. The church was named Christ Church and was solemnly consecrated in 1867.
From 1878 the church was only used by the German Protestants in Brno, as the Czech Protestants had built their own church. The Red Church was used by the German Evangelical Church until 1945 . After the end of World War II, the church came to the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and "Jan-Amos-Comenius Church" was (Czech: Českobratrský Evangelický chrám Jana Amose Komenského ) renamed, the popular name "Červený kostel" (German Red Church ) was preserved.
