Red rebels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Red Rebels were a group of social democratic resistance fighters in Munich . It was the largest and most active social democratic resistance group in Munich and consisted mainly of former members of the social democratic Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold and the workers' sports clubs.

history

The head of the Red Rebels were Josef Lampersberger and the Reichsbahn worker Franz Faltner . The former, disguised as a dining car waiter, carried out courier services for the SPD in exile in the Czech border area . Many of the fighters were colleagues at the Reichsbahn repair shop in Neuaubing , some of whom lived in the colony . The Red Rebels distributed brochures, newspapers, camouflages, leaflets, etc. As early as 1934, they were collecting photos of the Dachau concentration camp . They also planned a bomb attack on Munich Central Station . Nobody should be injured, rather a sign should be given that the Nazis have strong opponents.

The Gestapo observed the Red Rebels from the beginning . Since there was a spy among them, the resistance group was exposed in April 1935. Faltner and his colleagues were arrested and sentenced to long prison and concentration camp terms. After 1945 Faltner returned to the railway as a worker.
