The Red Tower is part of the historical fortifications of the city of Luckau and shapes the Luckau cityscape.

The tower, which is 30 meters high today, was part of the Calauer Tor in the direction of the city of Calau . The tower was built from the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century and has been raised several times over the years. Its current Welschen hood was created in 1871.

The base of the round brick-built tower has a diameter of 8 m with a wall thickness of 2.50 meters. The facade is not structured. Due to its original function as a defensive tower, access to the tower is on the city side at a height of 6.90 meters above the level of the current walkway. Extensive renovation work was carried out in 1992 and 1993.

On June 4, 1813, allied Prussian and Russian troops defeated French occupation troops on the site in front of the tower, preventing their advance on Berlin . A memorial plaque on the tower commemorates this event.
