The Red Flemish beef is from extinction threatened Belgian breed of cattle .

The animals are solid red, occasionally with a few white spots on the head, chest, stomach and legs. With a weight of approx. 700 kg, the cows have a height at the withers of approx. 140 cm, adult bulls with a weight of approx. 1200 kg have a height at the withers of approx. 150 cm. In 1986 the cows produced an average of approx. 5000 kg milk with 4.03% fat and 3.35% protein. The breed is used for milk production and meat production.

Origin and Distribution

The Red Flemish beef is a long-established breed in Flanders and was used as a herdbook breed from 1920 . In 1986 there were about 50,000 cows. Their number decreased rapidly, so that in 2001 there were fewer than 100 cows.
