Rothéneuf is a holiday resort in Brittany in north-western France and is located about four kilometers from the historic center of the city of Saint-Malo .

After the parish priest, Abbé Fouré (1839-1910), had suffered a stroke at the age of 30 that paralyzed him on one side, he retired to the cliffs of Rothéneuf, where he lived as a hermit for 25 years. His sculptures of demons, pirates and fantasy beings carved into the rock are now a popular tourist attraction.

Rothéneuf is the birthplace of the explorer and navigator Jacques Cartier (1491–1557), who led three expeditions across the Atlantic to the Saint Lawrence River in 1534, 1535–36 and 1541–42 . His country house, Limoëlou, is now a museum.
