Rovio Entertainment Ltd. ( Rovio for short ) is a Finnish computer games company. The company achieved great fame with the release of the game Angry Birds .

history

The company was founded in 2003 under the name Relude and renamed Rovio Mobile in 2005 . The big breakthrough came in 2009 when Rovio released the game Angry Birds . The game has been downloaded over two billion times worldwide on all available platforms.

In 2011, the renaming followed in Rovio Entertainment Ltd . The company is now valued at over a billion US dollars. In March 2012, Rovio took over the development studio Futuremark Games Studio of the 3D benchmark manufacturer Futuremark.

In July 2012, the Amazing Alex game for iOS and Android was released and topped the list of the best-selling apps in less than 24 hours. It's about a curious boy who is confronted with increasingly difficult challenges. It depends on the interplay of objects that Alex collects in the course of the game.

In October 2014 it was announced that Rovio is cutting up to 130 jobs (around 16 percent of the workforce). In January 2015, Pekka Rantala became the new CEO and Mikael Hed moved to the Board of Directors. The pre-tax profit decreased from EUR 36.5 million in 2013 to EUR 10 million in 2014. After less than a year, Rantala resigned in December 2015 and Kati Levoranta became the new CEO. The IPO took place in September 2017, the issue price of the shares was 11.50 euros. The total company value was around 900 million euros.
