The Rowing Club Bern (RCB) is a Swiss rowing club in Bern on Lake Wohlensee . It was founded in Bern in 1919.

history

The Rowing Club Bern was founded in 1919 by James Leutwiler, Jules Greminger, Paul Meyer, Antonie Bouchet, Walter Ruprecht, Alexander Nussbaum and Fritz Ritschard. The first president was Walter Ruprecht.

The Rowing Club Bern has celebrated national and international successes in its club history.

Boathouses

The first boathouse was inaugurated on October 24, 1919, on the site of the former Gassner brewery in Bern.

The hydroelectric power station was built in Mühleberg between 1917 and 1920 . From the summer of 1920 the Aare was dammed and the Wohlensee was created. In 1930, the second boathouse was built in the Eymatt near Bern (today's location), which was extended in 1935. In 1988 the boathouse was renovated and a club and training room was added.

The boathouse from the 1930s no longer met today's requirements and needs. This made it more and more difficult to keep rowing operations going. On July 10th 2011 it was decided that the Rowing Club Bern wanted to build a new boathouse. In February 2012 the new boathouse was started. The new boathouse was inaugurated on September 8, 2012.

Rowing events

The international ski race " Armadacup " has taken place every year since 1980 in October on the Wohlensee at the Rowing Club Bern. After 32 events, the “Armadacup” was replaced in 2019 by a new “Bern Boat Race” format, in which instead of the mass start, the participants were staggered.
