Royal College of Physicians of Ireland

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI, Irish Coláiste Ríoga Lianna na hÉireann ) in Dublin are an institute of the Irish medical profession that, like its Royal College sister institutes in Great Britain ( Royal College of Physicians , Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh , Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow ) serves in particular for further training. Like these, they award a membership diploma (MRCPI) after exams, also in various countries abroad (Malaysia, Oman, India, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia). A distinction must be made between membership and the election of a fellowship.

It was founded in 1654 and received royal consecration from King Charles II in 1667 and another confirmation from William III in 1692 . and Queen Mary , which is why it was called King's and Queen's College of Physicians in Ireland until 1890 . Founder was the Regius Professor at Trinity College (Dublin) John Stearne and a main aim was the regulation of the medical profession and its education in Ireland. The seat is in a classical building on Kildare Street in Dublin, completed in 1864.
