The Royal Scottish Society of Arts ( RSSA ) is a non-profit foundation under Scottish law founded in 1821 by David Brewster as The Society for the Encouragement of the Useful Arts in Scotland . In 1841 Queen Victoria signed a Royal Charter , transforming the company into a corporation. Unlike most learned societies, the RSSA, like its role model, the Royal Society of Arts, has no specialization in any subject or science. Here people from many areas of the mainly practical application of scientific knowledge meet.
