Ruud Ouwehand

Ruud Ouwehand (* 1958 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( double bass , bass guitar ).

Act

Ouwehand graduated from the Hilversum Conservatory in 1985 , where he studied double bass and piano. He belonged to the groups of Greetje Kauffeld , Soesja Citroen and Hermine Deurloo . Between 1994 and 2003 he was a member of Armando Kwartet ; whose album The Violinist was awarded an Edison . Since 1995 he has played in a trio with Bart van Lier and Peter Nieuwerf ; he also formed a duo with Nieuwerf. He also performed with Ferdinand Povel , Toots Thielemans , Theo Loevendie , Chet Baker , Archie Shepp , Branford Marsalis , Nedly Elstak , Fay Claassen , Peter Tiehuis , Philip Catherine , Ack van Rooyen and the Rivertown Jazz Band . He has toured all over Europe and Indonesia and performed at festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Kiel Jazz Days. He can also be heard on albums by Jan Verwey / Christian Hassenstein , Diet Gerritsen, Paul Heller and Diederik Eggenkamp.

Since graduating, Ouwehand has taught at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Enschede and at the Amsterdam Conservatory. In addition, he has been visiting professor for jazz double bass at the University of the Arts Bremen since 2016 .
