Christian Hassenstein

Christian Hassenstein (* 1960 in Berlin ) is a German jazz musician ( guitar ).

Life

Hassenstein began playing the guitar as an autodidact at the age of 15 . At first he played pop songs. After he began to seriously deal with jazz at the age of 20, he studied jazz and classical guitar from 1982 to 1986 at the Graz University of Music with Harry Pepl and Harald Riebitsch . In 1986 he moved to the Netherlands to finish his studies at the Hilversum Conservatory with Wim Overgaauw and Kenny Napper .

Hassenstein has appeared in jazz clubs and festivals across Europe since 1983, mainly with his own trio (and guest soloists) and his quartet. Between 1989 and 1994 he led the jazz group Questar together with the flautist / saxophonist Andreas Spannagel . He toured several times with David Friesen and Jan Verwey . He also played with Ack van Rooyen , John Engels , Ferdinand Povel , Tim Armacost , Toon Roos , Jasper Blom , Gil Evans and Attila Zoller .

In 2003 he returned to Germany, where, in addition to playing in clubs and regularly touring, he also worked as a teacher; since 2006 he has also organized the Rheder jazz evenings. In 2013 he founded his own record label DJAMtones to publish jazz and jazz-related music. Between 1987 and 1992 he was a lecturer in jazz guitar at the Hilversum Conservatory.
