royalist
A royalist is a faithful to the king (follower of the king / kingship ). Royalist is mostly used as a synonym for monarchist .
In addition, however, a distinction must also be made: The term royalist denotes
- a monarchist in the Anglo-Saxon area
- a follower of Charles I (England) during the English Civil War , see Cavaliers .
- in France, in connection with the French Revolution, a partisan of the Bourbon dynasty as opposed to supporters of Napoleonic rule, see royalists (party) .
- in France after the collapse of the Second Empire in 1870, those who wanted to reestablish imperial or royal rule instead of a republic .
