Purpose and basis of the foundation

The purpose of the foundation is to improve the living conditions of children in need in Africa at the local level and to guarantee a guaranteed school education as part of its projects. The focus of the foundation's activities is on Rwanda and the border area with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The work of the Rwanda Foundation follows the basic principle of helping people to help themselves. This should be largely independent of European requirements. New projects are initiated by the partners in Rwanda. The ongoing monitoring and control of the projects also takes place there. In addition to the local coordinator, the most important actors on site are the teachers, the families, the responsible veterinarian, a contact person from the responsible ministry and the students. A project steering committee advises and makes all decisions on site. The participating families elect their representatives from this group. The projects are evaluated every three months.

The project work focuses on local organizations, especially schools.

The direct target group is the local population in rural regions (“grassroots level”), especially children and families as well as small rural businesses.

The Rwanda Foundation's commitment is based on the three areas

  • Education (especially school education at primary and secondary level),
  • Nutrition,
  • Health.

The foundation is financed through the foundation's assets and donations. An important and long-standing partner in Germany is the health insurance company AOK in Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland and the official partnership association of the Interior Ministry of Rhineland-Palatinate.
