The Rublič R-7 Raček ( German  seagull ) was a Czechoslovak aerobatic plane .

history

The R-7 was designed by the chief designer of the Orličan plant (formerly Beneš-Mráz ) in Choceň , Zdeněk Rublič, from the early 1960s with the aim of providing the state aero clubs with an undemanding, i.e. easy-to-maintain aerobatic aircraft. Rublič therefore constructed the type in a conventional wooden construction with fabric covering and a rigid rear chassis; only the engine mount was made of light metal. A Walter Minor 6-III with 118 kW was selected as the engine . The construction was carried out in close cooperation with the glider development center (Vývojové plachtařské středisko, VPS) of the paramilitary organization SVAZARM in Medlánky. Rublič died before the construction of the prototype could be completed, after which the work of Zdeněk Hlavka was continued. In 1964 the R-7 was completed and took off on its maiden flight. The subsequent flight tests revealed rather disappointing flight characteristics, so it was decided not to put the aircraft into series production, especially since powerful alternatives were available with the models of the Trenér series . The R-7 was still flown for a longer period with the registration number OK-80 at SVAZARM.
