The Zlín Z-26 Trenér was a Czechoslovak training aircraft (from Czech trenér = German: trainer ). It stands at the beginning of the well-known Z-26 to Z-726 trainer aircraft series, with which top performances have been achieved in international aerobatic competitions. Zlín aerobatic planes won the Lockheed Trophy competition in 1957, 58, 61 and 63–65 and the French Léon Biancotto Trophée in 1965, 67 and 69 .

history

The development of the Z-26 goes back to a tender for a military aircraft for the beginner training from 1946. Some time later, the plans developed by Karel Tomaš on the basis of the Kl 35 for the Z-26 and for the competition design Praga E-112 were presented. The former was awarded the contract. The first flight was successfully completed in September 1947 and the model went into series production in Otrokovice . Production ran until 1953 and comprised 173 Trenér. The Z-26 was used by both aviation clubs and the Czechoslovak Air Force , where it was designated the C-5 .

From a structural point of view, the Z-26 was a cantilever low- wing aircraft in a wood-metal composite construction with a rigid rear wheel landing gear. A Walter Minor 4 III engine with 78 kW (105 PS) served as the drive . The fuselage consisted of a tubular steel frame covered with fabric, only the engine area was sheet metal.

The successor model was the Z-126 "Trenér II" .
