Zlín Z-22 Junák ( Boy Scout ) is the name of a Czechoslovak training aircraft . It was the first in-house design of the ČSR aircraft industry, which was built in series after the Second World War and partly flew until 1970.
history
It was designed by Karel Tomaš, who based the design on the Zlín 381, which in turn was based on the German Bücker Bü 181 , which was built during the war in the Zlín branch Otrokovice as Zlín 181. In contrast to the original pattern, the two pilot seats were not placed one behind the other, but next to one another. In terms of construction, the Z-22 was a cantilever low- wing aircraft in half-shell timber construction. The leading edges of the wings were lightly swept. The landing gear was rigid and had a rear wheel. The pilot's cabin was arranged relatively high and offered excellent all-round visibility.
The first flight of the prototype (43 kW / 57 PS) took place on September 17, 1946 with a Percy III engine, which was retained in the first 31 series copies. After many inquiries and orders were received first from domestic aviation clubs and later also from interested parties abroad, production was relocated to the Kunovice Let plant , where a second series of 170 aircraft with a Praga-D engine and the designation Z-22D was built has been. Export deliveries were made to Romania and Belgium, among others. In total, around 200 Junáks had been built by 1950.
In addition to the normal version, there was also the three-seater Z-22M with a Walter Minor-4-III engine (78 kW / 105 PS) and the four-seater Z-122 with a Toma-4 drive ( 78 kW / 105 PS). A version with retractable landing gear ( Z-222 ) was not implemented.
