The Czechoslovak Zlín Z-42 is a multi-purpose aircraft made by the manufacturer Zlín . It is used as a school, travel and, due to its aerobatic suitability , also as a sport aircraft. It is equipped with a hook on the tail unit so that it can also be used as a tow plane for gliders .
history
The Z-42 was developed from the project study Z-41 and flew for the first time on October 17, 1967 (registration number OK-41 ). The first series version was built from 1970 and was powered by a 132.4 kW M-137A injection engine and a rigid wooden propeller. A floor-adjustable V-310 metal propeller was later used.
For the western market, the Z-42L (registration OK-72 ) appeared in 1971 with a 118 kW Lycoming AIO-320-B1B engine and a hard cell propeller .
In 1975 the improved Z-42M with M-137AZ drive and adjustable propeller V-503A made of metal appeared, recognizable by the false keel in front of the tail unit. By converting the Z-42 of the first series to Z-42M level, the Z-42MU was created with a reinforced structure and fore keel on the vertical stabilizer. The last variant was the Z-42D .
Around 250 copies of the Z-42 were made, which were also delivered to the GDR (65 pieces), where they were used from 1971 by the GST at the Schönhagen and Jahnsdorf flying schools for courier purposes and as training aircraft for future military pilots.
The four-seat liaison aircraft Z-43 emerged from the Z-42 . Projects that were not realized were the single-seat aerobatic aircraft Z-44 and the Z-45 with modified wings. The twin-engine Z-46 touring aircraft was also not built.
Initially, the only German aerobatic team "Blackbirds" used this type of aircraft, which has since been replaced by Jak-52 .
