The Zlín Z-135 (also Moravan Z-135) is a helicopter made in Czechoslovakia .

history

The development work for a light school and agricultural helicopter began in 1959. The engineer Jan Mikula was in charge of construction. The model called the Z-35 Heli-Trainer completed its maiden flight on October 7, 1960. An M-332 with 103 kW (140 PS) served as the drive . During extensive testing in August 1962, a national altitude record of 5343 m was flown. However, during testing it became clear that this helicopter would need a more powerful engine. The rear of the helicopter was destroyed in an accident involving the Z-35 in the High Tatras in 1964. During the repair, the more powerful Walter M-337 motor and a larger rotor were installed; the machine was now given the designation Z-135.

The machine did not get beyond the prototype stage, as the helicopter development in the ČSSR was stopped in favor of Soviet designs. The prototype can be viewed in the Kbely Aviation Museum .
