history

The boathouse of RV Bad Wimpfen on the annual car-free Sunday

After the call for the founding meeting on June 12, 1923, the rowing club Wimpfen am Neckar , based in Wimpfen, was entered in the register of associations of the local Hessian district court on September 24, 1923. Heinrich Engel, forester von Becker, bank director Müller, dentist Erich Geiger and lawyer Friedrich Weiß were registered as founding fathers. The boat park initially only consisted of seven "slow boats", which were also loaned out to non-members in order to cover the costs. On October 25, 1924, the club was able to christen its first two sport boats (two-seater) with the names Wimpina and Neckar . The former salt store of the Ludwigshalle saltworks was leased to the rowing club in 1927. The rent was one Reichsmark a year. During the Second World War, the boathouse and the stock of boats were completely destroyed when the Hindenburg Bridge was blown up.

After 1947, the members began planning and building the boathouse . After the new boathouse was inaugurated in July 1952, the foundation stone for the first expansion was laid in 1973. This created a real boathouse with changing rooms, sanitary facilities and a club room. Building up a suitable fleet of boats has cost a lot of work and money. To top it off, the eighth was christened the town of Bad Wimpfen by the then mayor Klaus Czernuska in 1981 . In the meantime, the number of boats had expanded to such an extent that there was a suitable boat for every rower.

For the 75th anniversary of the association, the facade and the club room of the boathouse were renovated in 1998. Since the boat shed had become too small for the number of boats in the meantime, it was decided in 2000 to extend it by eight meters in the same style in order to create more space.
