Rudolf Grünberg

Rudolf Grünberg is a German canoeist.

Career

Rudolf Grünberg comes from Neubiberg in Upper Bavaria. From his youth he was interested in canoeing. He became a member of the TGM canoe gymnastics community in Munich, where he was soon one of the top performers in white water races, both in folding boats and in Canadians. In the two-man Canadian K II - together with Hans Seiling - in 1953 in the men's 1000 m race and in 1956 in the same discipline with Hans Proquitte - but this time in the 10,000 m distance - German champion. In the KI (folding boat) he was German champion in the men's singles in 1961, 1962 and 1963.

Because of his national successes he became a member of the German national canoeing team. In 1961 and 1962 Grünberg won the three downhill races in Spain. At the canoe world championships in Spittal in 1963 , he became world champion in white water races. For this sporting achievement he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf on July 16, 1968 . With 203 victories he was one of the most successful canoe and whitewater athletes of his time.

After completing his international career in 1963, Grünberg was involved in looking after the national team and in the youth field.
