The Rudolf Steiner School Kreuzlingen (RSSK) is a cross-border Waldorf school in Kreuzlingen on Lake Constance in Switzerland . The almost 40-strong teaching staff and around 250 students come from Switzerland and Germany . The school teaches according to the principles of Waldorf education . The school building is opposite the Kreuzlinger train station in the former Wieler knitwear factory.
history
In 1976 the "Rudolf Steiner School Association Thurgau " was founded. In 1978 the first kindergarten based on Waldorf education opened in the canton of Thurgau. The school opened in 1980. In the first year of school, almost 50 students attended grades 1 to 4. In the following years, the entire factory building was restructured into a school building with classrooms, performance rooms, sanitary rooms and a kitchen.
After 2000, the 12-year education plan was drawn up in cooperation with the Waldorf School in Wahlwies.
organization
As is customary in Waldorf schools, the organizational form of the Rudolf Steiner School consists of three pillars, the teaching staff, the school association and the parents.
The non-profit school association forms the organizational platform and ensures that the school is broadly anchored in the local cross-border environment.
Project work
The project work is part of the teaching of every grade level, e.g. B. projects take place in nature. Further examples of projects are Work & Climb (geology epoch), English foreign language project in Turkey or 5th grade donkey trekking.
Mission statement
The mission statement of the RSSK is based on the pedagogy of Rudolf Steiner and also takes into account the changing times. Continuous and comprehensive education replaces early selection and one-sided intellectual education. The bilingual instruction in English and French from the 1st grade and the high value placed on artistic and manual work are also part of the requirements of the RSSK curriculum.
building
The building at Bahnhofstrasse 15 was built in 1904/05 for the mechanical hosiery factory Pius Wieler founded in 1898. The two-storey, two-wing complex was designed by Wendelin Heene. The building was extended in 1922 and enlarged in 1924. This enlargement was probably the work of Theodor Scherrer. Between 1980 and 1986 it was converted into the Rudolf Steiner School. The newly added stair tower is a project by Wolfgang Werner. The three-story building complex today has a historic brick facade. The street side of the northern head building gains an impressive physicality through the hipped roof. The canal that used to run under the southern part of the building is now filled in.
