Benjamin Engeli

Benjamin Engeli (* 1978 in Kreuzlingen ) is a Swiss pianist . He achieved fame through his membership in the Tecchler Trio , the Zurich Ensemble and the Gershwin Piano Quartet .

biography

Growing up in a musical family, Engeli took her first piano lessons at the age of 15. He studied both horn and piano at the Basel Music Academy . After receiving his teaching diploma, he moved to the Zurich University of the Arts to continue studying with Homero Francesch until he graduated in 2003. In that year he also founded the Tecchler Trio together with Esther Hoppe and Maximilian Hornung , which won the ARD music competition in 2007 in the piano trio category . The trio separated in 2011 after eight years and three recorded CDs .

Since 2007 he has been a member of the Gershwin Piano Quartet , with which he has given concerts in China and Brazil , among others . Engeli arranged several of the pieces for his albums be.four (2010) and Transatlantiques (2018). He has taught chamber music for eight years at the Basel University of Music . In 2013 he also took over a piano class at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory in Feldkirch . With the Zurich Ensemble , of which he is a founding member, he appeared again as arranger on the CD released in 2014.
